All stations except Claremont NH, Windsor and Randolph have waiting areas with caretakers open an hour before the train stops (those 3 stops have covered areas outside).
No stations in Vermont handle checked baggage (you can handle your own bags on board). No stations in Vermont sell tickets (make a reservation in advance by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL. If it's sufficiently in advance, they will mail the ticket, otherwise ask to speak to an agent and make arrangements to buy it from the conductor on board the train).
Note that google maps station locations are close but not exact: good enough to navigate you to the area, but keep your eyes open as you arrive.
We'd recommend double-checking with the station caretaker to insure your car is parked in the right spot for long-term parking, especially in winter when plowing is a consideration.

CCTA bus #2 runs between Essex Junction and downtown Burlington every 30 minutes M-Sa (No service on Sundays. Sat connection available only *to* the train in the morning, not in the evening).

Whitehall, NY - 28 miles west of Rutland, VT
Albany - Rensselaear, NY - used by people from Bennington, Manchester and Rutland because service is more frequent. Pay parking available at the station ($8 a day [confirm])
Claremont, NH - Free short term and long term parking
Springfield, MA - has more frequencies to New York and "The Lake Shore Limited" to the west. Local parking lots are $7 per day. Recommended: Ken's Parking, 1 block from the station.
The Vermont Rail Action Network is advocating for expansion of Amtrak service in Vermont that would bring Amtrak trains to the following stops:
