As you know, the House transportation bill was introduced this week containing an all out assault on truck sizes and weights. Today, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted in favor (33-22) of an amendment striking bigger truck language from the bill and inserting a comprehensive study on TSW.
The amendment struck provisions that would have allowed expanded use of the triple trailer trucks, 97,000 lbs. singles and 88,000 pound auto-haulers. There is still plenty of debate left on the bill today, but we wanted to get this good news to you right away.
While this is a positive step, the fight is not over. The committee will continue its mark up of the five-year transportation plan throughout today. Should the committee pass its bill out of committee, it will then move to the House floor for debate where it will likely be subject to more amendments.
